N.B. Bottle opened lunchtime Friday

Amazing colour - glowing straw gold. Reticent bouquet with some resinous oak predominating over light pear and honeysuckle fruit. Masses of varietal apricot dominates a thick, unctious palate of great presence, well-judged spicy oak, reasonable acidity and a whopping viscous finish. Wow! Apart from the indifference of the nose, there's certainly no lack of interest with the palate. Drink over the next year or so. Recommended.

Any comparisons to the incredibly, overpriced wines of the Condriu/Guillot appellations?

High class viognier very gluggable but often unaffordable. Perhaps Clonakilla a great option.

You're asking someone who's drunk straight Viognier less times than the fingers on both my hands. And as you haven't met me yet, you would have no idea how many fingers I have or not, although I did work for a (very, very) short time help saw timber for a Building Supplies firm, here in Canberra. Obviously, I wasn't much good at it. Needless to say, microsurgery was virtually unheard of in the early '70's. Sorry I can't be of any help, again!

It seems to me the issue with the "overpriced wines of the Condriu/Guillot appellations" is that we in Australia, and probably New Zealand, get these wines well after their best drinking dates. As such, although I have had a few expensive French straight Viogniers, I don't think many Australia-chained palates can make a good comparison... might be one for the ex-pats in England and elsewhere.
