TN: Peel Estate Shiraz 2008

G'day
It's been quite a while since I looked at the 2008 vintage of this wine. Decanted immediately before service.
Crimson in colour and has possibly lightened slightly in colour over time. 15% alcohol, and this shows initially on the porty and leathery nose. With a bit more swirling, Some stewed red plums emerge, along with mocha, cloves, Christmas cake and allspice.
The palate is not nearly as hot as the alcohol would indicate, and there's a nice balance between the developed fruit flavours, the acid, tannins and moderate oak grip. It's definitely full bodied and finishes long, but isn't as overwhelming as I first thought (feared). Power with grace.
Cheers
