TN: Main Ridge Estate One Acre Pinot Noir 2015

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

Purchased from the winery in late 2016 and mostly ignored since  Decanted an hour before service. Pale garnet in colour.

A restrained nose with dark cherries, mushroom, and a faint hint of strawberry. With lots of swirling, there's a blend of cloves, five spice and cinnamon which is adding significant interest, and the nose is showing more perfume.

The palate shows more intensity than the nose, with more of the dark cherries, some dried herbs, some stalky characters, mushroom / forest floor, and savoury characters are balancing the developed fruits. Tannins are fully integrated and barely noticeable, while the acid is playing a supporting role.

Given the initial delicacy of the nose, the finish is quiet long and powerful without being especially heavy.

I was afraid I might have left this for too long - I shouldn't have worried. I also have one bottle left of the 2015 Half Acre which deserves a look very soon.

Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
