Standish V23

Hello All,

Trying to gauge the interest in V23 from Standish this year and contemplating whether I'll wet my toes again (aiming to reduce wine expenditure this year without much luck).

Been reading posts here on Auswine Forum and AWCC on Facebook from those who have been lucky enough to visit the cellar door. Seems that this vintage may not be getting the fan fare of 21/22.

So my question - who will be purchasing?

I'll probably give it a miss as I stocked up on the 2022 vintage plus have been spending too much on wine in recent months.

I’m at capacity at the moment and need to drink more space in my 50 bottle fridge 😅

I haven’t thought this far ahead yet. When is the release date?

I’ll likely purchase as I have over the last 4 years, but maybe not go as deep as I did in the past 2 years.

Cheers Ed

I went longer on the last couple of vintages. Will probably only do a 6 pack this time

I will give it a miss. I spent too much on wine last year. I also need to reduce my wine collection.

I got the email and passed. I had the lamella added to my cart and could’ve purchased but the wife is on me about purchases at the moment so held off haha

On another forum I frequent
Between 2-4,000 left of each wine...so definitely no rush.
Perhaps the challenging vintage has put people off, but still miles ahead of the disastrous 2017 and 2020.

Like a couple above have said, I bought more than normal of the ‘21 & ‘22. I ordered my usual mixed 6 pack of Lamella and Schubert of the ‘23’s. We are tasting at the winery next week and if anything blows our socks off, I’ll get a few more.

Love Dan’s wines and one of the few Barossa Shiraz I really enjoy and must buy these days.

Cheers

hmmm, was 2020 really a "disastrous" vintage in the Barossa?. I thought yields were low, but quality ok.
I'm genuinely asking, not that I have tried any 2020 Barossa wines.

I’m no winemaker and very far from an expert, but like any vintage in any region, there were some great wines made and some poor ones. A lot depended on access to water. In my opinion and from what I’ve tasted, when you see the quality of the ‘21 and ‘22 vintages in SA, you can see that maybe ‘20 was a poorer vintage. ‘25 will be similar. Very, very dry in the Barossa. But a couple of winemakers I’ve spoken to already are saying quality is decent, but yields are down.

Cheers
Ian

I have found most 2020 wines from SA that I have tried and a few from Victoria, as being either thin and weedy, or fruit profile is muted, in that many on the nose show promise with a solid aroma, but once the wine reaches the palate (if indeed it ever gets there), it falls off a cliff.
Many wines also overtly acidic, green and sharp.

I may have less than 30 bottles in total for the whole vintage...2019/21 and 2022 on the other hand
Cheers Craig
