TN: Howard Park Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

G'day

Decanted 3 hours before service. Deep purple colour.

Primary fruits of blackcurrant and blackberry, accompanied by graphite, cedar and a little chocolate. The palate is flavourful, with the fruits washing over the tongue. There's good supporting acidity, and the tannins are grippy and should settle down with a few more years' bottle age. There's a softness along with some intensity of flavour, and the wine finishes long.

Overall well balanced and with a long life ahead of it - this bottle was opened at least 3 year too young. I look forward to my next one.

Drank a 2010 at Balthazar the other night. Apart from being one of the most affordable drops on an outrageously expensive wine list (though still pricey), it was also beautifully smooth and balanced.

Good one. 15 years+ would be a good age to drink these.

Ecellent choice of restaurant, too. One of our favourites.

Notyes on the 2010 from a vertical tasting in 2020:

Howard Park Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (97% Mount Barker, 3% Margaret River, 13.0% alc): Dark crimson, and quite bright in the glass. The nose shows cocoa powder, eucalypt, red fruits, vanilla, saddle leather, rhubarb, a touch of furniture polish and barnyard. The palate shows more primary fruit than the nose and appeared quite youthful as a result. Acidity added to the freshness, and we heard the “velvet, suede” textural descriptors again. The middle palate is slightly lacking (the cabernet ‘donut’ effect, which wasn’t apparent in any of the other wines) and the wine did not finish quite as fully as other vintages.
