On opening the wine was incredibly stinky. I double decanted this back into the bottle.
Woof.. The nose was still stinky but not as bad.
Garnet and bricking around the edges. A leafy nose with muted fruit coming through after some vigorous swirling. The palate was pleasant but nothing special, some mild fruit, leather and a touch of soy still possesing a nice backbone of acid.
I wasn't enjoying this as much as I thought I might so I resealed it and left it for the next night.
Wow, what a difference 24 hours can make.. All the pong had gone and I was left with a nose of chocolate, mushroom and blackcurrant. The palate was very interesting with various mellow layers of blackcurrent, pencil shavings, leather, nutmeg and soy. It still possesed lively acidity and chalky tannins, a much improved wine.
