TN: Houghton C.W.Ferguson Cabernet Malbec 2017

One of the second tier of reds in the Houghton line-up, underneath the Jack Mann. Always interesting, especially as Malbec was always a favourite in the Mann family blends - with Cabernet providing structure.
Crimson colour. The nose has a mix of blackberry and red plums, with some oak derived characters (coffee, choc) and some savoury notes as well (cedar?). The palate is full and rich with the fruit flavours bursting through. Tannins are present and drying, but at this stage the fruit dominates. Long finish.
From having tasted some (but not all) previous vintages, I am suspecting I opened this too young. 2017 was a cooler vintage for WA, so 7 years should be about right for this - however I reckon this will improve a little in the next 2-3 years. I'll let you know.
Cheers
