TN: Faber Vineyard Petit Verdot 2016

G'day
I've bought this wine fairly regularly over the past few years, but in small quantitites, and I keep forgetting to look at them. Decanted before service.
I think the fruit for this wine comes from the home vineyard in the Swan Valley. Deep purple in colour, and dense. Initially, the nose showed some leather, but with a little time the fruits and florals started to emerge - there's a fair whack of violets on the nose, and black / blue berry fruit. There's also Christmas cake spices (maybe cinnamon and cloves) and a hint of leather polish.
The palate is soft (moderate acid) and full. Tannins are quite integrated and drying, and there's an added touch of chocolate. The dark fruit characters carry through the palate and are noticeable on the finish. Medium to full length with the acid fading at that point.
As I mentioned, I don't open varietal PVs often, and I suspect this will hold for a year or two more, without necessarily improving. I hope it holds, anyway - I have a couple of earlier vintages of this wine that have also been gathering dust at the back of the cellar, and I hope they're not past it.
Cheers
Allan
