TN: Castello Di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva 2017

G'day
My partner and I got onto Castello di Volpaia's wines after visiting the village 5 yearsago. I've been buying their Chianti Classico every year since, and occasionally their higher priced wines (e.g.g Coltassala). Decanted just before tasting.
Crimson in the glass. An initially shy nose, with rosemary, oregano and maybe a touch of fennel over the top of some sour red cherries. The fruit come to the fore more on the palate, with moderately juicy red cherries and redcurrants sitting sweetly on the tongue. There's almost prickly acid, and tannins are fine but very grippy, a little like Nebbiolo. Medium finish.
Not a badwine from a lesser vintage, but to be honest I was expecting alittle more.
Cheers
Allan
