TN: Devils Lair Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 (Margaret River)

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

I've seen a few wines from 2014 recently, so I thought opening another one would be a good idea. I've been buying this wine (and the DL Chardonnay) each year for over a decade now. Decanted 2 hours before service. The wine took lots of swirling to open up in the glass.

Purple black in colour. Dusty nose, initially a little shy, with stewed blackberry and mulberry, alongside some tobacco, mocha and a touch of eucalypt.

The palate is clean, juicy and awash with tart red fruits and ripe dark berries. There's milk chocolate alongside the fruit sweetness, with tannins taking a back seat, and only just noticeable. Medium bodied, and flavourful without being overpowering.

My initial reaction to the wine was "ho hum" but it improved considerably in the space of one glass, and has risen somewhat in my estimation. Good for a mid-week wine.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
