TN: Faber Vineyards Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

The wine was decanted about 40 minutes before service. Deep purple in colour, and quite dense.

Initially closed, but only a little swirling revealed blackcurrant/blackberry, kirsch, cedary oak, and dried herbs. There's signs of secondary development (not surprising in a 10 year old wine) and savoury notes.

The palate is quite full and flavourful, with the blackcurrant and ripe blackerries accompanied by mulberries, and all flowing over a savoury oak base. Tannins are drying but quite integrated. It's quite a mouthfilling wine, without being too heavy, and leads to a moderately long finish. The palate seems a little younger and fresher than the nose.

A very good example of Great Southern cabernet. It's hard to tell if there is room for improvement, and I don't have much history with this vintage to draw on. Advice welcome!

Cheers
Allan
