The Most Popular Label in your cellar?

Forumites,

Some of you may have seen that I did something similar in another forum following the release by Wine Ark of their triennial report that discloses the most popular wines they have in storage. Of course, all the hoo-ha was about the most popular wines stored in cellars in Australia, but it was really about what was stored in Wine Ark managed cellarage, in other words a blatant infomercial. Storage there is quite expensive, so it's likely that expensive wines would tend to be stored there. Grange was the most popular apparently, but I very much doubt that this is the case more generally in people's cellars.

Hence this poll, what do you have most of in your cellar, whether it is under the stairs, in a proper cellar at your joint, or in professional storage or all of these?

I'm limited to ten poll choices, so I have omitted Moss Wood Cabernet, Lakes Folly Cabernet, Cullen Diana Madeleine, Leeuwin Art Series Chardy and Mount Mary Quintet, all of which were in the Wine Ark top ten, but received no love in the poll on the other forum. So I have listed 5 of the first ten Wine Ark labels, then five others, including "None of the Above" as an option. The other poll threw up a few dark horses, not rated by Wine Ark, hence I have tried to incorporate some of these in this new poll. Honourable mentions to Marius and Blue Poles, which I couldn't fit in, just select NOTA if either (or others) are your most popular label.

I would be pleased if you could select the most popular label in your cellar, but also feel free to list other significant labels as well in a post. You only get to select one label in the poll. Of course these poll results won't strictly give an answer to the most popular label by number of bottles, that would require a more complex poll, but I am confident we will see what the likely #1 is, by sheer weight of poll votes.

Thanks for your contribution, Malcolm

Poll needs more riesling
If we're talking reds, then Seppelt and Tyrrells. Moss Wood, too.

Unfortunately, the poll is limited to ten choices, just don't have the space.

I think I have slightly more bottles of Pierre Menard than I do if Wendouree. As I tend to only by a few bottles now of any wine and drink a few young, the days of having vast collections of a single wine are long gone.

Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label 2.8%
Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon Wilyabrup 2.8%
Penfolds Bin 389 2.7%
Rockford Cabernet Sauvignon Rifle Range 2.7%
Cullen Wines Diana Madeline 2.5%
Wendouree Cabernet Malbec 2.3%
St Hallett Shiraz Blackwell 2.2%
Blue Poles Allouran 2.2%

For Aussie wines, St. Henri has the largest representation in my cellar, but that is misleading as:
- it not a style I drink much of these days
- it's a wine I always expected to lay down and forget for 2-3 decades (it's the 2004 vintage so getting there now)
- it was bin-ended by a supermarket as the dying embers of their ambition to do 'fine wine'

Outside of Australia, two are better represented, and better reflect what I actually drink: A rather good value SV kabinett riesling by Leitz, and long time favourite Ch. Musar

Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon top for me, followed by Tyrrell’s 4 Acres Shiraz.

Only one bottle of Penfolds in my cellar.

Wynns and then all things Coonawarra by the length of the straight
Wendouree, Rockford and Sepplets in the hundreds of bottles
Then a number of Victorian labels in the 50s (Mitchelton/Redbank/Jasper Hill/Passing Clouds/Craiglee/YY/Mount Mary/Dalwhinnie/Wild Duck Creek/Virgin Hills/Bests).
A few SA wines (Bondar/Standish/Marius/Noon/Woodstock/Metala/Greenock Creek/Peter Lehmann/Yalumba/Gomersal/Pennies/Pikes/Petaluma/Wirra Wirra/Crabtree).

That's for starters, but there may be more.
Sorry Malcolm its not percentages, I honestly do not know how much wine I have, have never kept a single cellar record, other than what is between the ears, and undoubtedly it will all come back to bite me on the arse
Cheers Craig

I can’t find how you list percentages but I found a pie chart which stated 23% of my cellar at 900 bottles Wendouree! Next is Rockford and closely followed by Cappellano. 55% of cellar Italian.

Now those numbers are huge however my plan was always to host Wendouree events abroad due their popularity and uniqueness. Or pass them on. Rockford is an incredible crowd pleaser though this years prices are hitting an uncomfortable level! That said, it is the reason I have kept buying- the secondary market prices are cultish ( though dropping off a bit )

I was just looking at the poll results and noticed it groups all of The Standish wines together - if I do that they make up 3.6% and my 2nd most popular wine
