More than half the month gone and nobody has bought anything apart from Wendouree.

I picked a few oddities, including a 2012 Petite Arvine and a 57 1er Cru Desert Wine from the Saint Croix de Mont.

27 assorted quaffers from the cellar door fest.
Mainly CV water vale Rizz from shut the gate and claymore etc etc.
forgotten already! took the market trolley again and loaded up.

oh yeah 2022 shut the gate Gewürztraminer. grabbed a few of these.

Also leaning into two favourites of recent years in Vinho Verde and Timorasso. I'm a huge fan of Soalheiro's standard bottling and the Primeiras Vinhas, but this will be my first try of the lighter Allo, and mineral Granit (and also first try of the Mendes Contacto which sees some time on the lees).

Luis Pato Baga a long time favourite, and the grape is one I've come to love in recent years, that's partly why I got the Niepoort as well, but also trying it out as a summer wine.

Chiaro Condello seems to get a bit of attention in the UK these days, but this is my first try of it, but I love the wines of their neighbour in Predappio, Emilia-Romagna - Drei Dona.

Freisa and Grignolino two grapes that I love as relatively modest table wines, and I reckon deserve a bit more attention

The Thymiopoulos is a Xinomavro, a grape touted as being nebbiolo like. I've seen that said about a few grapes, but reckon (whilst not identical) it's the one that best marries tannic structure with aromatics, as nebbiolo does.

Furlani a new name to me, and not one I noticed on either of our holidays in Trentino. Partly bought out of a love for the region and partly to explore natural wines a little further (it's been hit and miss, but also interesting, and I do value that in exploring the wine world)

Viuva Gomes are better known for long-ageing tannic Colares, but this looked an interesting diversion

Feudi di San Gregorio Biancolella is a somewhat rare Campanian grape that I've appreciated in the Marisa Cuomo / Gran Furor whites made in Furore looking over the Amalfi coast. Feudi can be a little modern / easy going for my tastes, but I've also found super value in their more modest wines. Hoping for that here.

Finally a Brachetto, something of a sister grape to Moscato, albeit typically light red / pink, but as with Moscato d'Asti, typically made in a low alcohol, sweet, lightly sparkling / frizzante style. It's become my aperitivo wine of choice in Italy, the light fizz and sweetness working as a nice pick-me-up after some energetic strolling.

On one of my first dates with Trudi we met for an afternoon session at Christie’s in Amsterdam (I think I bought some Clarendon Hills), had an early dinner at a restaurant called Spring (where David Elswood and the Christie’s team turned up later) and ended up seeing John Foxx at the Paridisso at 9pm. The first wine I ordered for dinner was a too tropical Loire white, which we didn’t finish. 2 businessmen at a neighboring table were drinking a half bottle of 89 Gaja Barbaressco which I had never tried. Ordered a bottle and was impressed that the waiter came out with the wine list to check if the vintage was ok ie do you know you are ordering an expensive bottle ? It was marvelous and the empty bottle is still sitting on display at home.

Saw a full bottle for sale at MW. Probably past it now, but what the hell, time to give it another go.

Also picked up a couple of bottles of 2016 Purple Hands Ancestor Cabernet - been wanting to try for a while.

Was going to bid on some ports, but I heard that one of our members was bidding on 30 different fortifieds, so decided to stay out of the bidding.

Ha ha, no surprises on who that would be MC...apparently making lots of room and getting excellent cashflow on all those Frenchies.
