Hello Brains Trust

Has anyone done any wine tourism in Greece? I will have a few days at the end of a trip in August and was looking at doing some wineries. Preference is for close to Athens as that is the start and finish point, but happy to consider other regions.

And yes, I am using Google, but value personal recommendations more.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Michael

Below is a link to some info of wineries close to Athens:

If you are able to, it is worth the drive to the Nemea wine region in the Peloponnese region. Nemea is the home of the Agiorgitiko red grape, which is a varietal I like a lot (medium-full bodied with red fruits flavour profile). It is about a 1.5 hour drive from Athens.

The best wines on the mainland come from Naoussa in the Macedonia region. It is the home of the Xinomavro red grape. Xinomavro is a variety often compared to Nebbiolo, with a similar flavour and tannin profile. I love Xinomavro reds.

Thanks I love Shiraz and jimv. Had already found the this is athens page, but appreciate the recco for Nemea - might just be a bit far. Some of the links i that Central Greek Wineries are interesting and not so far.

Thanks again.

Joining my friends on their yacht and sailing around Corfu for a week early July, planning to get right into Assyrtiko while there. Lucky me.
