Seppelts Vintage Port 1998

This is the last of some cleanskins I bought indirectly via this forum, I think sometime on the 2000s. There was a takeover of Seppeltsfield, I think, and old stock was sold off cheaply. At a fiver per half bottle, they were always going to be great QPR. red wine.
Not in the least tawny - this is like a 6 year old full bodied red in colour. There's sweetness and rancio on the nose - it's made up of ripe plums and rich red and blue berries, along with slight sherry character. Where it differs from a tawny port, however, is that the flavours are more primary and intense, rather than mellowed and rounded.
A shame that this (my last bottle) was opened as the finale for a quiet Sunday night, rather than the highlight of a dinner party. The 1999 awaits, however
Cheers
