Excellent notes, Sean. I'm hoping to do a BL vertical myself later this year, and this adds incentive to do so.

BL is a six pack buy for me every year.

Thanks for the notes. Have all of these and more in the cellar, so, will enjoy comparing. A few years ago I even managed to get a six pack of the 2011 from Tony at CD, a vintage missing from your lineup and the vintage we all think was crap. Haven't had any yet, but my expectation from conversations with Sue Holder and others is that it is quite a good wine and is really coming into its own. Hopefully report soon

Touche Malcolm did the same. It is actually ok but it will never be brilliant. Had a bottle last year. Reminded me a lot of 92 and 95, both very wet years where a number of wines were thin and green.

I love the incongruity of this thread sitting up alongside the Penfolds Multi Vintage chardonnay thread. This wine one of the great constants in the Australian wine scene, successful because it's shown a clear regional identity, a strong cellaring track record, and priced at a level that makes buying it one of the safest bets in Aussie wine. It feels like the two extremes, and ironically owned by the same parent company.

I must admit some concern about the 'rationalisation' of winemaking facilities and the group's propensity for divvying up grapes to suit the internal power struggles. At the moment I'm not reading any impact into the TNs people post, but does anyone see a shift?

Pennies used to have a couple of BL equivalents, Bin 28 and 389. In the 80/90s both very good and very well priced, true to label, punters loved them but then the company well and truly stuffed them, in terms of quality and price...a parody now.
BL can still be sourced for $29-31, it has had Sue Hodder at the helm for 25 years now, it's still all Coonawarra and for a 100000+ case make, very consistent.
I haven't tried '19 707 but no way in hell is it 20 times better than Wynns Cab...or 4-6 times better than JR.
Yes Pennies do source top shelf fruit for a few special releases, but Wynns seem to have enough grapes to consistently produce a few good VFM wines. Their problem now is that they are simply making way too many wines, particularly at the bottom end. The Siding can go, the banker is a joke, the gables could also be culled and the new Rosé and reframed wines are in discount bins across the country. On TWEs site there are 10 vintages of V&A currently available!!
Wynns once just made 5 reds and 2 whites, perhaps they should return to their roots.

Yes agree about big companies buggering things up. Would be really happy if someone offered to take Wynns, Seppelts, Leo buring and Lindies...not too fussed about the rest.

I've just noticed on one of the TWE sites a reference to Bin 311 as "Baby Yattarna"

Great notes Sean. I have the 2010, 2012, and 2019 BL Cab Sav's. Looking forward to trying them in a few years time.
