Lehmann doing the right thing with TCA replacements

Post by GraemeG »

A 98 Barossa shiraz, replaced without fuss by 2 bottles of the very same wine, with a 'futures' shiraz thrown in for good measure. Excellent work.

I've also taken to notifying wineries when I feel something is 'not quite right' with a wine - particularly if I feel that a cork seal is in some way responsible. A 2002 Laughing Magpie that was very subdued on the nose, and quite flat, short and stripped on the palate I suspect to be the victim of low-level TCA, despite the lack of distinct aromatic tip-off, and I told d'Arenberg so via e-mail. Not asking for replacement (acknowledging I'm making a judgement call, even though a bottle of the same wine drunk 3 weeks prior was an utterly different beast), but suggesting at least giving us the option of a screwcap is the way to go. No response yet, of course...

cheers,
Graeme
