TN: Paulett Antonina Riesling 2009

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

The Antonina is Paulett's top of the range riesling, and is from the renowned Polish Hill River region in the Clare Valley. I think this was $50 a bottle when purchased over a decade ago from their spectacular cellar door.

A moderate yellow in colour - very pale for a 13 year old wine. Pure clear lime juice on the nose, with delicate lemon, citrus florals, and the faint remnants of kero. The palate is intense, and I am reminded of Bickford's Lime Cordial, but it is in no way oily or viscous. Acid is present but not sharp, and the wine is quite mouth-watering as a result. At 12.5% alcohol, it's not hot or heavy, either.

This is fabulous riesling - perfectly balanced, refreshing, almost delicate and an abolute delight to drink. At 13, it's probably at its best, but there are no signs at all that it has peaked or starting to decline. My last bottle, unfortunately :(

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

I like this style. Impressed with recent bottles.
