Upon opening it had a medicinal nose with wafts of cherry.
Decanted and left for a couple of hours and it really changed.

Palate was sour cherry, earthy dry fruit beautifully structured tannin and hint of oak

Very Bordeaux like. Tasted blind I would have definitely thought this was old world.
A beautiful and complex wine.

Drank with rack of lamb - last bottle but I do have a magnum left.

Thanks for the tasting note Croquet King. I am really enjoying the 2009 vintage of this wine and, whilst the medicinal note is not familiar, the cherry certainly is. I've decanted each bottle for three hours and that's been the dominant primary flavour with vanilla lurking below.

Sounds like a great bottle mate, 1996 still my favourite vintage of this wine (not that I've tried every vintage!). Look forward to sharing that Magnum with you CK! :D  :D

Thanks for the TN - my sole bottle of this wine is also a 1996 magnum, and it will be my first try of the wine. Your note makes me look forward to it!
