G'day

Crimson in colour. Big nose with lots of blackcurrant, mulberry, kirsch, cassis, a little leather and coffee grounds. The fruit characters (although developed) flow softly across the palate, with integrated tannins and good supporting acid. Full bodied without being overly heavy, and long finish.

Probably at its peak now. Not a typical cabernet, but a very good one nonetheless, in the Peel Estate style. 2011 was a top vintage locally, by the way.

Cheers

Why do I do this? After suggesting "Probably at its peak now", I then left the last bottle for nearly five years further.

Fortunately, the wine is still quite drinkable, although defintely on the down hill slide. The black fruits are fully developed and well into tertiary territory, and there's some tangy red fruits as well. There's a fair amount of leather, some menthol, and the fruit, acid and tannins remain in balance, despite the changes in fruit flavours.

I would definitely say "drink now" if you have any. Sometimes I should follow my own advice. :D :)

Cheers
