Marchand and Burch make wines in Great Southern Australia and Burgundy. The Australian wines are from Great Southern grapes, while the French ones are from different locations in Burgundy. This wine is obviously one of the latter. Decanted 30 minutes before service.

Pale garnet in colour, quite light. The nose was shy initially, but opened up to developed red cherry, mushroom, and a little forest floor. The palate is where the main action is - it's complex, with the fruit forming a line down the tongue. Acid is prominent and provides freshness all the way through, and the tannins are very fine and well integrated. Excellent length with a linear finish. I could taste this for at least 30 seconds after drinking.

It was a wine which combined delicacy with intensity, and it partnered very well with a truffle and mushroom pasta.

Cheers
