Kosovich is a family owned winery that has been based in the Swan Valley since 1922. They also have vineyards (or long term leases) on vineyards in Pemberton, and this wine is a combination of grapes from both locations. 2011 was a great vintage in both locations, and this, unfortunately, was my last bottle. The back label suggests a 10 year life for the wine, but I think they have underestimated.

Crimson in colour, garnet on the rim. Fruit is still prevalent (blackberry and some mulberry jam) on the nose, but supported by savoury oak notes and dried herbs. The palate is full and complete, with the fruit, oak and tannins all falling into place, and a good lick of acid in support. A little cocoa or coffee adds to the mix.

There's some glycerol to this, and the palate has some gloss to it as a result. It's medium to full bodied, and is looking really good right now. It's also the best bottle of several over the years, and I would like to see this in another year or two. I won't.

Cheers
Allan

Almost all winery back labels underestimate the drinking window. In my experience, limited though it is, you can easily double the recommendation.

PS: Nice notes, thanks.

A number of years ago I bought a few reserve shiraz from Talijancich, which I quite liked - they produce mainly fortifieds. Never tried Kosovich.

Favourite wineries in "the valley" now Houghton is tragically gone, are Mandoon Estate (fantastic dusty cabernet) and probably Sandalford. They are both brilliant hospitality venues too, Mandoon especially.

I also buy Sittella sparkling which is fantastic value for money and IMHO one of Aussie's best producers (though the wife won't touch it because "sparkling" doesn't begin with a "C")
