I'd be interested to hear what people select from their cellars for birthday wines over the next year. It's my birthday today (66) and because of the medications I'm on to treat a DVT and pulmonary embolisms I'm only allowed about 180ml. A bit frustrating if I get something wonderful out of the cellar and watch my children or partner drink most of it! Then of course a standard had been set that has to be adhered to.....

Debating whether to open magnums of 2012 Rockford Home Block Cabernet or 2008 Kopparossa Reserve Shiraz. Maybe just load them all up with sparkling and hope there's some red left to put in the fridge for the next couple of days!

What happens if you drink more than 180ml?

Firstly, happy birthday btw. I happen to be about three months behind you, fortunately with no limitations on intake.

Surely those magnums would be a touch young. What are some of the other choices that you have in the cellar?

Probably implode, don't know but meds say no more than 14 SD's per week. I'm not sure I'd want to f%Ck around with anti coagulants.

I piked out and just opened some sparklings:
A Giesen Pinot chardy and a Tahbilk Couselant sparkling shiraz. Both seemed to go well with the Thai feast my darling put together. I agree the Rockford has another 20 yrs in it at least but the Kopparossa is probably in the zone.

I find if I put the cork back in and put it in the fridge I'll get a couple of days without deterioration. It's only recently I've been doing that, for forty five years almost no bottle has remained undrunk!!
