TN: Peel Estate Zinfandel 2011

This clocks in at 16% alc. Purple tending to garnet, and even a little tawny in colour.
Rich and spicy nose, and not surprisingly, alcoholic heat. There's lots of licorice, some raisins / Christmas pudding, dark and blue berries, and savoury oak characters. The palate is mostly (and largely - I choose that word advisedly) mid and back palate, with a huge hit of developed fruit on the mid palate, and lots of Muscat-like raisins and viscosity leading to a lengthy finish. There's a reasonable amount of supporting acid and the wine is actually enjoyable for its vibrant (obvious) characteristics. It's in no way balanced, thought, and possibly should have been drunk a couple of years back.
Time to open a 2014 and see how that's looking.
Cheers
