TN: Peel Estate Shiraz 2004

Post by Waiters Friend »

I think the last time I tried this was at http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.php?f ... az#p128357. The group's note was:

"The nose showed big soft and sweet red fruits, with licorice, fennel, caramel, mocha, baking bread, and some bacon fat. The palate was also rounder and fuller than with vanilla and cranberry. There's also some white pepper. This appears longer than the 2005, but with tannins starting to fall away, and although the alcohol and fruit are approximately in balance, the finish is long but uneven."

I therefore have no idea why I waited until now to have another go.

Still deep purple in colour, no sign of bricking. Although fully developed, there's still prominent blue and red fruit characters on the nose and palate. There's traces of some of the elements described in 2015: fennel, mocha, meatiness. The palate shows vanilla and moderate supporting the fruit
flavours. Tannins are in the background, and, unlike 2015, the wine is finishing long but evenly.

Excellent wine for 16 years of age.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
