After declaring that the Wirra Wirra Chook Block 2006 as my WOTY, I realized that I still had Xmas dinner to deal with. So came the WW Chook Block 2002 for sake of comparison.
After one hour decanting, the wine appeared as a black core surrounded by a dark red rim. the nose was loaded with cedar, black fruit, dark chocolate and smoke. but everything seemed to be welded together just like the velvety mouthful that came after. The mouthful slowly disappeared in a rainbow of fruits, spices and mushrooms that ended with a thin flush of soft tannins. Maybe a bit shorter finish than I expected. The fun part was that we had some Penfold Max Shiraz Cabernet afterwards and this new wine tasted flat to me. The intensity of the CB made everything else simple. Oh well this CB should then be my WOTY. Not fair for the '06 CB but then it will have another 4 years to catch up.
