In no particular order:
2018 Planeta La Segreta Grillo.
Fantastic zesty version of Grillo, lively fruit and balanced acid. Its an enigma though, as I cant find it for sale back here in OZ, nor is it on the Planeta website! Damn it,Id grab a case easy.
Craggy Range Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2016 & 2017
Had the '16 one night, the '17 the following night. Chalk and cheese. If I'm correct, the '17 has declassified Le Sol fruit as no Le Sol was produced in '17. The '16 was excellent the '17 very under par.
2019 Mud Brick Reserve Pinot Gris Waiheke Island.
Bloody lovely, one of the better Gris I've drunk.
And then an unhappy trip to Stony Ridge.
Unfortunately the cellar door staff have been instructed to parrot on about everything about each wine that it becomes too much. I went for the Premium Tasting Flight consisting of the '17 Reserve Chardonnay, '17 Stony Ridge Estate Syrah and the '14 Larose. I threw the '16 Airfield Cab Merlot in fro good measure..
The '17 Chardonnay was oaky, broad and lacking supporting acid, the Syrah was fresh but lacked any defining fruit, both the Airfield and the Larose tasted like they had been open for a few days, lacking any vitality at all, dull and bland.
I went back to the Cellar Door to get some answers, but unfortunately it was already packed with a bus load of tourists.
So i walked away completely dissatisfied.
