Well, how exciting is the Auswine renaissance ? A little retro now, the old tasting vibes, when you can't be fagged writing a note.

Since HKG has become a mecca for the wine collecting world and starry eyed importers to China, with its zero duty, the diversity of drinking is phenomenal. Last night pretty typical of an informal catch-up

The Graveyard Chardonnay was fabulous. Heaps of variation from a very woody bottle last month ( in screw cap btw ). Oak was now integrated, wine had tension in length and fruit development was significant though with freshness.

Chapoutier's Ermitage blanc 1995 can be one of the great white wines of the world. I have had a bunch of these recently ( this and other vintages ) and always felt it a great white burgundy alternative ( hate premox ). Anyways, like many mugs, my mate believes in passive cellaring and this was crap !

Old is good. Another annoying fallacy I see with wine expert friends in HKG. The 1975 Jura was drinkable and passably interesting- I just felt like an ancient Roman drinking it. Not my cup of tea.

Lamy fresh and simple and well worth hunting, Domain de Bellene simple and not worth hunting and Jadot Clos St J 97 oustanding in Jadot form ( when given the chance with age )

Just added the Graveyard a chardonnay! We have a Graveyard cabernet too.

Anyways, it was truly loved by all! Screw-cap and aged white Aussies could be emerging as something very special that catches the international marker off guard in the future?
