This wine has a very informative back label: Fruit off dry-grown vineyards. Whole bunch pressed and transferred without settling or additions to a mixture of barriques, puncheons and stainless steel tank. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and the wine left on lees for 2 years.
Yellow / gold in colour. Complex nose of developed yellow peach and grapefruit, grilled nuts, warm grains, and yeast autolysis. The palate is a little buttery, and very textured, with many layers. It's mouthfilling, full and rich, but with sufficient acid to provide a little freshness. Long finish and very satisfying.
One of the more interesting chardonnays I've had recently, and a contrast to the current trend towards lean and citrus wines. There should be more wines like these.
Cheers
