Riedel - scratches inside glass
Hi, is it normal/inevitable that Riedel glasses will get scratches/marks inside them over time?

Are you perpetually swirling old, sediment-ridden red wine that hadn't been decanted?
Seriously though, I'm stumped as to how you would get scratches only on the inside, since any washing method and/or detergent ought to affect both sides of the glass.
Mahmoud.

It likely isn't scratched but probably more likely water deposits....you can soak them in vinegar+water and it'll help remove them..
Its possible they were scratched in the dishwasher if you used that..which is either from stuff still on dishes you washed them with (which I'd recommend not doing) or your detergent did it....
If you're handwashing them...I don't think they're scratches.
If you're using a dishwasher it could be either.

Hi,
For the first few years I used them, I would just let them dry upside down on a cloth after hand washing then bye recently bought a microfiber cloth to dry then right after washing - always by hand.
For my large red glasses where I can't get my hand in very far, I also use a wine glass cleaning tool to clean the insides.
Is detergent likely to damage the glasses? What is the best method to clean them properly if so?

Are you washing by hand with a liquid soap? It isn't likely to cause scratches...
Just try leaving one in vinegar and water and see if that helps...

Denture tablets are a great way to clean the inside of wine glasses. Fill with lukewarm water and pop in a tablet or two (depending on size of the glass). Leave for a few hours or overnight and then rinse. Hello squeaky clean glasses!

Still, if by dishwasher there would be scratches on both sides of the glass. Hand washing might account for scratches on the inside because, if held by the stem as one should, it is the inside that needs more cleaning. Either the cloth being used or jewelry on the fingers might be the cause.
