Ashbrook has been quietly producing some wonderful wines since the mid 1970s. They tend to fly a little under the radar, which is good for the consumer, as the prices remain more than reasonable. For me, this blend and the chardonnay are the picks, and I buy at least a 6 pack of each every year.

Deep purple in colour. Complex nose, with blackberries, dark plums, tobacco, vanilla, dried oregano and maybe some cinnamon all leaping out the glass. The palate is in harmony, with the fruit characters supported by integrated tannins, with some chocolate / coffee and spice (oak?) accompanying. It is medium to full bodied, and seems to grow in stature the longer it is in the mouth.

According to the back label, there's cabernet franc and petit Verdot in as min or players, and the wine sees two years on oak. It is balanced, Bordeaux-like, and drinking very well now. Experience tells me, however, that it's still got a few years to go.

Cheers
Allan
