According to the producers, both 2015 and 2016 were good years, with 2015 the slightly warmer of the two. This Riserva is 100% Sangiovese, and sees 2 years in oak - 80% larger Slavonian, and 20% in second use French barriques.

Garnet in colour. In addition to the cherry and plum characters, there's tobacco, leather, red fruits and a little cedar. The palate is quite intense, with grippy tannins, a little dark chocolate, medium acidity and a good length.

Tasted again on Boxing Day, with similar notes to those from 2 1/2 years ago.

There are signs of development, with more leather on the nose initially, and the fruits heading moreinto the red spectrum. The wine has also filled out a little, and is more weighty in the mouth than previously. It retains some intensity of flavour long with acid freshness. Long finish

Definitely improving with age.

Cheers
