In the land of Montepulciano red wine, we also went looking for whites. Although the whites don't have DOCG (or even DOC, they are IGT) status, we have found a couple of drinkable ones.

This is one, made from the same white grape varieties that go into Vin Santo - Grechetto (also known locally as Pulcinolo), Malvasia and Trebbiano. Fresh nose with lots of pear and some lemon. A little lees texture (I'm pretty confident these don't see oak), leading to a similar palate to a ripe Pinot Gris (Australian style). Good supporting acid and a clean finish.

This is made by Ercolina wines. There's a mixed dozen following me back to Perth, so you may see more TNs in months to come.

Cheers
Allan
