100% Nerello Mascalese from vineyards near Lake Arancio in the Province of Agrigento (western side of Silcily). 13.5% ABV.

Unlike Nerello from Faro, this one bares little resemblance to anything from Mt Etna. It's grown on clay-loam terrain, 300m above sea level. The grapes are dried in the sun for 15-20 days before pressing.

Sweet and ripe raspberry jam, stewed red fruits, strong Earl Grey tea, baking spices. Too much oak. Dry finish. Lacks structure and complexity. No sense of place or varietal. Not my cup of tea (even though I love strong Earl Grey tea).
