100% Nerello Cappuccio. 12.5% ABV.
A grape that's rarely seen bottled on it's own, because it's difficult to grow and there isn't much available. So they say, but I think this is more of a marketing spiel than anything else.
Darker in colour than Nerello Mascalese, more aromatic, but lacks structure in the mid-palate. A lovely purity of fruit, good acid and tannins. Quite Pinot-like, but simpler in structure.
Remarkably similar to the Calabretta Nerello Cappuccio I tasted last night, also a 2015. While they were both nice to drink, I wouldn't buy either of them again. They are relatively expensive (compared with Nerello Mascalese) and I'd rather drink straight Nerello Mascalese or one blended with some Nerello Cappuccio. Nevertheless, a good educational exercise to understand what this varietal brings as a blending grape.

Nothing to add except thanks for posting this - I've not tried this one from Benanti yet - indeed can't recall ever seeing listed.
