I'm heading to Tasmania on a wee tour and will be centred around the eastern and northern wine growing areas. Any standout Pinot Noir suggestions that I shouldn't miss would be most appreciated.
Many Thanks

I have only quickly stopped in at the Coal River wine region near Hobart. If you go here:
1) Please pop into Palmara - I would love to read someone else's thoughts about their Pinot Noir as I think it fantastic.
2) Don't bother about Meadowbank - I think the only Pinot Noir worth drinking there is sold out - worth a phone call just in case though. I found the rest of their range pretty ordinary
3) Not Pinot Noir related, but if you want to try Australia's greatest Gewurztraminer, stop in at Craigow - a few metres up the road from Meadowbank. Their Riesling is also an absolute cracker although admittedly not my style.
4) I did not have time to get to Domaine A which was my only regret of the region.

if you make the effort to go out of your way to ' next door to freycinet' (it's a bit of a hike ), make sure you go TO freycinet...that's my fav tassie pinot. unfortunatley, it was about $45, cellar door last time i was there. the reason i say 'unfortunately' is because you will not resist it. now you've blown your wine budget for the trip................

Just back from there and the highlights for me were
1. DomainA (by far) - coal river, for everything
2. Holm Oak - tamar river, for the 02 pinot
3. Pipers Brook - tamar river, for the good service, good range and food
4. Meadowbank - coal river, for 02 pinot, food and views

If you are also going to hobart and the Coal valley I have some notes here:
http://www.auswine.com.au/forum/viewtop ... ght=hobart
that give wine tasting and food reviews for quite a few vineyards around Hobart.
Also agree with Adair.

Thanks again for that. I note that you had the same impression of Meadowbank as I (don't bother), also liked Craigow but did not stop in at Palmara.

Holm Oak was my best stop up North Tas.
