TN: Higher Plane Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (Margaret River)

G'day
This producer hails from the more southerly districts in the MR region. I've enjoyed their Cabernet, Chardonnay and "Messenger" Bordeaux blend from a couple of previous vintages.
This is a quality MR cabernet at a reasonable price. There's a typical cabernet nose, with blackcurrant, kirsch, cigar box, and a hint of violets (is there a touch of Petit Verdot in the blend?). There's also a degree of savouriness (oak derived?) that I would have expected from an older wine.
The palate is medium to full bodied, and the savoury notes strongly underlay the dark berry fruit. Tannins are not obtrusive, but provide sufficient grip, and the acid provides the right level of freshness. This is a very good food wine, especially as the savouriness complements meaty and herbal dishes.
Plenty of time for this one - at least another 5 years. It's a baby.
Cheers
