Someone needs to start it...

6 x 2008 Pol Roger Winston Churchill.... 30% hike on the 2006 initial release price. Harbinger of things to come methinks for next year’s 2008 Dom P, Dom R and Taittinger CdC releases.

Was looking at this the other day
$290 or thereabouts...is that reasonable?
Cheers Craig

That’s probably about as good as it will get in Oz. I paid GBP 143pb after vat.

2nd tranche of 2008 Cristal jumped 20% in the Uk, so I expect something similar with WC.

Eventually got round to raiding the stocks of a very reasonably priced local merchant:

6 x 2011 Cascina Saria Langhe Nebbbiolo 'La Riddolina' - a good 'baby Barbaresco' at a tenner a bottle. We've drunk lots of it. Billy bargain.
5 x 2010 Battaglino Roero 'Sergentin' - More good value Nebbiolo, but this time from the other side of Alba
3 x 2006 Serradenari Barolo - twenty quid a bottle, and a 'foursquare' Barolo that suits my preferences
1 x 2012 Langhe Freisa - apparently opening out nicely now
1 x MAG Cascina Saria Barbaresco 30 quid a magnum - I think that counts as bottom-feeding.
1 x 2015 Joblot Givry 1er Servoisine (Rouge) - A man cannot survive on Nebbiolo alone
1 x 2015 Dom. Cottebrune Faugeres (Gaillard) Transhumance - Ok the wine name is cool, but the wine sounds interesting. Always good to have something random every now and then

I have too much wine so unless something smacks me in the face I am not buying. However scotch is another thing altogether. I've bought some Ben Nevis, Mcduff, Glen Grant, Glenturret, and Benriach.

Now I have too much scotch. Sigh ..........

Good selection there Ozzie.

I looked at the La Grange, a friend we both know had this a few months ago and said it was fabulous and you can’t go wrong with Brovia.

Cheers Con.

I got a few from auction last night from both ends of the field.

1 X 2015 Best’s – Thomson Family Shiraz.
2 X 1990 Craiglee – Shiraz.
1 X 1994 Leasingham – Classic Clare – Shiraz.
3 X 1990 Petaluma – Merlot.
1 X 2004 Bartolo Mascarello – Barolo.
1 X 2008 Bartolo Mascarello – Barolo.
2 X 2010 Bartolo Mascarello – Barolo.
1 X 2004 Bruno Giacosa – Rocce del Falletto Barolo Riserva.

The pricing on some of these Italians are getting out of hand.

Cheers Con.

They ended up going for more than double the estimate price and nearly triple the reserve price.
The 01 and 02 Monfortino's went silly also.

Cheers Con.

Broker called me to advise the price jumped a further 40% on release date such is the demand. As such, your price is now very attractive Craig.

Crazy prices indeed. However, some of the Giacomo Conterno's went for less than estimated price. A good buy if you're buying at the $1000+ per bottle range?

Just like Burgundy, demand for Barolo/Barbaresco outstrips supply and so the price keeps on rising year on year. I'm glad I got in early enough to the Italian bandwagon before it becomes completely unaffordable. Unfortunately, I missed the boat for Burgundy. I think Etna will be next.

Yes, Beaucastel and Pegau normale are usually in $90 range but Charles Giraud is a cut above. For a more fair comparison would be their Hommage Jacques and Cuvee Capo offerings

Being a bit short of good quality every day drinking tawny ports I put silly (low) bids on some Yalumba Galway Pipe and some Australian Grand Prix ports from 1986 to mid 1990s in a local auction. Thought I'd get a few but ending up with everything - 15 bottles. All bar 2 were still in original boxes so hopefully their owners treated them reasonably. 2 of the GPs were old bottlings (volume showing as 738ml) which is good as their early stuff is sensational. Fill levels good bar 1.

Luckily wifey is away so they went into the cellar without notice. $10-$12 is ridiculous.
