Picardy Chardonnay is an annual buy for me, despite being sealed under cork.

Medium yellow in colour - but about the same colour as a recently opened 2016. Fresh and complex nose with ripe peach, nectarine, and cashew nuts. The palate is rich yet fresh and lively, with the fruit, acid and oak all combining well to create a well balanced, harmonious and complex wine. There's a slight buttery mouthfeel as well. Medium to long finish.

This is entering a sweet spot, I reckon, and will probably hold for 3-4 years and develop further for 7. No rush to drink up, but it's looking so good now.

A couple of years makes a bit of difference. Yellow/gold in colour, and now fully developed. The nose has most of the characters mentioned 2 years ago, but they have definitely developed, and there's a slight sherry character underneath the fruit. Oak and acid are now sitting in the background on the palate, and the slightly buttery mouthfeel remains.

Enjoyable, but not as much as it was as a younger wine (to my palate, anyway). On the basis of recent tastings of every vintage from 2011-2015, I'll rescind my previous comments about the wine holding. Drink now.

PS: I contacted Dan Pannell (co-owner) and his preference is to drink the wine between 3-7 years from vintage.
