End of August bottles from Imperial wine (named because of their love of large bottles), plus a few bottles from upmarket supermarket Marks & Spencer in their current sale
2 x 2012 Ch Lamartine Cahors (indulging my preference for their standard bottling rather than their two fancier labels)
2 x 2006 Cantenac Brown Margaux
1 x 2011 Ch d'Ancestral Lalande de Pomerol (a nice little discovery this, with definite similarities to Pomerol, but with a little pleasing rusticity for times when a Pomerol might seem a little too plush/polished - it's not about points, it's about the right wine for the right food)
1 x 2015 a cheap Graciano from La Mancha. (Graciano a grape that appeals, La Mancha a region that does not - too hot normally. However Spain can often surprise, hence a cheap punt)
1 x 2015 HaHa Chardonnay. (Never had this before, but hoping for something in the slightly cliched butterball style - an occasional guilty pleasure)
1 x 1998 Monte Bernardi Sa'Etta (Sangiovese - a sort of super-tuscan)
1 x 2011 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett
1 x 2017 Tyrrells Hunter Semillon (an own brand made for Mark and Sparks - intrigued as to what this might be like)
1 x 2012 Ch Franc-Maillet Pomerol

Nice one!
I bought 6 myself a month or so ago and will be very interesting to see how it ages over the medium
to long term.
I think they have added some sweetness in there (later harvest RS type stuff) not sure.

It’s typically much riper than most Clare Riesling

This is what im grappling with. Its just in such a great spot now, is it going to get better or just fall over?
I see the acidity there, but I can also see the potential for it to get overpowered by that sweetness as well. Only time will tell.

I’ve had a 14 and a 15 lately and found them both a bit flabby, as in lacking zing and freshness. Admittedly they improved on days 2 and 3. It’s not the most nimble and agile of wine styles but it has its merits. I ended up picking up a few 17s - hope they don’t fall away, as such, like I feel the 14 and 15 did.

Surely the ‘14’s and ‘15’s are in the riesling “hole” and will pop out the other side in another 5 years or so. The ‘05’s are in the zone right now.

Yes, that is possibly the case. Not so sure that the 14s and 15s etc are quite the same sort of wines as those earlier vintages though.

Do you think they’ve changed significantly stylistically over the last decade or so ?
Have they massively upped production at the expense of quality or something along those lines ?

To my taste i feel they are bigger, fuller and less subtle wines than I recall. Not sure whether the alcohol levels over time back up that thought. I did quite enjoy the ‘17 though - enough to get a sixer and some.
