Hi Ben, I went to one of the tastings, but unfortunately flew out of the house in a hurry, got there late, didnt take notes at the time and had to leave early. These are the impressions I got down aferwards:
I didn't really get the Willow Bend, could be due to late arrivla and not getting a lot of time with it.
The St Jak and the Oscar are excellent. To put it in perspective, the last time I liked a "first taste" shiraz this much was when I tried the 98 Rockford Basket Press.
The St Jak in particular is characterised by sweet perfumed blackberry, plummy fruit, no jaminess/overripeness, and well judged oak that frames the fruit nicely. Alcohol is 15.0%, but doesnt show at all. Wayne says keep 5 to 8 years, I'd agree with that.
The Oscar is in the same mould as the St Jak, but a bit more intense and was a touch more chocolatey. Some dont think this is worth the extra money over the St Jak, I think its the other way round, this is worth the money and the St Jak is a bargain.
The fortifieds are very good, although I slightly prefer the Seppelt versions of the Muscat and Tokay in the mid $20's and I'm not a tawny port fan at all.
cheers
Andrew
