TN: 2007 Marius Simpatico Shiraz

Post by Michael McNally »

After a brief email exchange with Roger Pike this morning I was inspired to open a bottle of Marius while watching the Blues lose State of Origin III (yes they won the series, but collect a few more series in a row before saying you have a dynasty - but I digress)

2007 Marius 'Simpatico' Single Vineyard McLaren Vale Shiraz. SC. 14%
Well was I wrong with my first note about this wine from 2013 which ended with: "90 points. Gets better after a couple of hours, but not the greatest Marius nor for the long haul."
This is for the long haul. After two hours in the decanter tonight this is a fantastic wine. Expressive nose of berry fruits, coffee, cocoa and allspice. Gorgeous balanced mix of acid, fruit, oak, and tannin. Drives through the finish with grip and savoury complexity. Not saying it's the greatest, but another Marius masterpiece!

And still more than 10 dozen Marius wines in the cellar!

Cheers Roger!
