TN: Turkey Flat Shiraz 2002

Under cork. Decanted an hour before service.
Purple in colour, with reddish tinges at the rim. The nose offers some stewed or developed plummy fruit; however, the more interesting characters are clove, menthol/eucalypt and chocolate. There's a hint of alcohol heat as well, but not pervasive.
The palate is where this really shines. There's grippy tannins, a flood of mocha and red & blue fruits across the tongue, vanilla, good supporting acid and a long and satisfying finish. It's full bodied, and I am surprised at the freshness the wine shows after 16 years. Probably not going to improve (no surprise there!), but may hold for a couple of years.
Cheers
