TN: Capel Vale "The Scholar" Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

This is the top of the range Cabernet from Capel Vale, and is from Margaret River fruit.
Deep purple black in colour. Substantial, almost polished, nose with cigar box slightly dominating. There's no shortage of rich fruits lining up, including blackcurrant, red berries and blue fruits. There's a touch of mint, black olive and coffee grounds, but these are in the background.
The palate is delightfully complex and multi-faceted, with integrated and grippy tannins, well supported by a line of acid. The dark fruits flow deliciously across the palate, as does the mint. The finish is long and even, and there's definitely no sharp edges to the wine.
As a ten year old wine, this was definitely worth the wait. It's possible it will improve further, but I really don't see how - it's a "complete" wine now and I'm frankly surprised at how good it is.
Cheers
