Friday SWR quiz - Robert Parker

Post by GraemeG »

Very much semi-wine-related, itÂ’s more of a movie quiz.

I watched a film recently. One of the lead characters (LC1) in the movie goes by a nickname. But, he confesses to another lead character (LC2) that his real name is Robert __ Parker (I’m leaving out the middle initial to keep the Googlers away!). So, who is this character – the nickname, the movie, the actor?

IÂ’ll add clues as I can think of themÂ…! (The references to LC1 & LC2 are for the purpose of clues)

  1. The movie is very loosely based on a real story, so the Robert Parker person did indeed exist.
  2. The movie was nominated for Best Film & Best Director Oscars, but won neitherÂ…
  3. The man playing LC1 has since been nominated for Oscars for both best actor & director
  4. LC1 and LC2 are both alive, but the movieÂ’s director died within the last 3 years

cheers,
Graeme

Well, almost. Right alias, right movie, wrong actor...

As Jerry Seinfeld would have it - "Newman!", then. For some reason I thought Butch revealed his real name in the 1979 prequel, not the original :?

Yes, Paul Newman. I had no idea the answer was given away in "The Early Days" - a film I've not seen. There you go. I'd envisaged having to give away heaps of clues for what seemed to me a rather obscure bit of information!

cheers,
Graeme
