TN: Peel Estate Vintage Port 1998

Who drinks VPs any more? I certainly seem to find less and less opportunity to do so.

This VP (at 19 years old) was holding well, but I suspect was not going to improve much with further age (I recall being advised that you don't open VPs before they are 21). What was good about this wine (for me) was that it held back on the brandy spirit / Christmas pudding cliche flavours and countered them with some savoury characters - imparting a degree of dryness to what is not an overly sweet port in the first place. A good balance of flavours, including a touch of coffee grounds, to offset the alcohol and traditional sweetness instilled in stopping the fermentation.

Worth a look, if you like a VP
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
