In the "November 2017 Purchases" thread both Rossco and Pat mentioned the 2001 Domaine A Cabernet. Rossco had bought three bottles while Pat said he had a wooden box of 6 bottles. At first I was surprised to hear that the Domaine A came in a wooden box, then thought about what other Australian wine comes in a box. I recall seeing a Penfold's Grange box quite some time ago but cannot remember any others off the top of my head. I have quite a few wooden boxes in which I store my wines, mostly Bordeaux and quite a few Italian six-pack boxes. I am almost certain that I do not have an Australian wooden box.

I'd very much like to know which Australian wines come in original wooded boxes.

Wynns John Riddoch used to come in a wooden box ~ 1998 vintage

Penfolds St Henri, RWT, and Grange all come in timber boxes (current releases)
Penfolds Bin A Chardonnay
Grant Burge Meshach
Nugan Estate Matriarch

Hill of Grace bottles come in their own individual wooden box.

I have a single bottle of Saltram No. 1 in a wooden case.
I also have a 3 bottle case of 2006 Teusner FG

I have a 6 pack of 2006 Langmeil 1843 Freedom Shiraz that came in the most beautifully crafted box. Never seen it before and didnt know it existed till it landed at my place. I will try and find a pic.

Well, this is very interesting, I have bottles of the Meshach, St Henri, Langmeil's Freedom, and have bought and tasted the Saltram No.1, and have never seen their wooden boxes. Is it possible they have different packaging and protocol for export markets?

Could well be. Every bit of weight matters when your exporting.
My No.1 was sent in a wooden box as a replacement bottle for a TCA effected bottle. Never seen it in a box for sale in the shops before

I have a couple of the 2001 Domaine A Cabernet in magnums, in wooden boxes that I bought at Auction a few years ago.

Australian bottles that I have in the cellar that came in their own six pack wooden box include:
Penfolds St Henri
Penfolds Bin90A
Balnaves The Tally
Wynns John Riddoch (12 bottle box, first few vintages only)
Grant Burge Shadrach
There are a number of other bottles and magnums which also came in their own individual wooden box

That reminds me, Lake's Foley lets you get your Magnum in a wooden box (Costs extra though).

No problem getting Aussie wines in wooden box here in Calgary, Canada. I have three-box of Grange, six-box of Grange, Wirra Wirra, Elderton and a few single boxes of 389, HoG. The problem is Aussie wines are still not so well known here and error can be costly. I know of a wine store manager who came back from holiday only to find that two boxes of Grange (this happened 3 yrs ago, so the vintage was 08) were delivered during his absence. Some guy came in and immediately wanted to buy one of the boxes. He paid the indicated price on the box, $800, because the clerk thought it was the price of the whole box. The worse part about the whole story is that the same guy came back 15 min later with an older guy (probably his father) and paid for the other box, all in cash. The clerk happily reported his big sale of the day. Had it been something from Bordeaux or from Napa there would be box opening before the sale.

Irvine magnums and St Hugo magnums sometimes come in their own boxes. The Irvine box is quite nicely made.

I think St Henri is the only Aussie wine I have in a wooden box. I got some Elderton and Domaine A in wooden boxes in the past.

Not sure I understand why a box of Penfold's Grange would not be opened. Surely the crux of the matter was that the customer came to the store soon after delivery and before staff could unpack it.

Rockford Basket Press Magnums come in wooden boxes. I also have a 02 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz Magnum in a wooden box as well. The Rockford Black Magnum winners also get really nice 6 pack wooden boxes I have a few hey Dave!

Yup. I have an empty box in our pantry and a full bottle in the Vintec. No idea what I'd do with it though hahaha.

When I was gifted a Penfolds Grandfather Tawny, it was nothing special but it came in a box too.

I wish they wouldn't use these boxes. Too bulky and heavy. Standard small six pack is super.

I hired a cottage in the Barossa one year and made a great fire out of wooden crates- Henschke, Rockfords, Turkey Flat, Sally's Paddock

Also the following:

Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz (wooden 6-packs)
Elderton Command Shiraz and possibly their Ashmead Cabernet (wooden 6-packs)
Two Hands – all their Flagship Series wines come in wooden 3-packs
Wirra Wirra Chook Block Shiraz (wooden 3-packs)
First Drop Wines The Cream Shiraz (wooden 6-packs)
Clarendon Hills Astralis Shiraz (wooden 6-packs)
Thorne Clarke William Randell Shiraz (used to come in 6-packs but I’m not sure if they still do)
Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck (as of latest vintage: each bottle comes in a beautifully crafted wooden box)
Hentley Farm Clos Otto Shiraz (great looking wooden 6-packs)
Torbreck Run Rig Shiraz (wooden 6-packs)

...and no doubt there'll be more.

Where's Mark Wickman these days? Our cellars next door to each other and his looks like a timber yard. He'd know a few more!

Some yes, both six pack and individual bottles, eg have 90A and 920 in both. However, the ‘04 60A and Block42 came in well made stiff cardboard bottle size boxes inside a well made and necessarily larger than normal stiff cardboard six pack box. Wreaks havoc with stacking in the cellar
