A "fix" for high alcohol wines

An interesting article that has, maybe, shed some light on my interpretation of recent wine show results and what I tasted at the 2017 RAS
Some alcohols did stand out to me on a couple of Gold Medal winners and I wondered how far apart is the judges palate and my personal (limited) experience.

When judges are faced with a large class of wines, say 50, the last wine they taste may have lost a significant amount of alcohol by the time they get to it, compared to the first glass.*
