Some pre dinner drinks at Brisbane's La Lune Wine Co.
A very Melbourne feel to this lane way establishment. A bar, small kitchen and only room for maybe a dozen small tables and a slightly hidden tasting room in the back for a small function.
The wine list is comprehensive with enough to please without requiring a month of study before arriving. The staff were knowledgeable and when they didn't know the answer to a question (like, where is the salami from?) they dutifully returned in a few minutes with the answer.
They also have about half a dozen wines at any one time under coravin to allow of some of the more expensive wines to be taken by the glass.
There were no formal notes but we had the following wines:
2007 Kreglinger Brut-Pipers Brooke, TAS: I'd put this up against Arras and it would compete very well. Took a while to open up but had a good depth of flavour.
2015 Dr Burlin-Wolf Wachenheimer Reisling- Pfalz, Germany: The reason why I am fast becoming a fan of German Reisling. Great weighty palate with apple, citrus and a hint of kero and a finish that goes for a minute.
2007 Dehesa La Granja Tempranillo-Ribera del Duero, SPA: A lot of wood here and lacks some of the subtlety of Riojan wines that I so like. Being very full bodied with a slightly flabby palate, but I'm being picky.
2014 Chateau La Grolet Cotes De Bourg-Bordeaux, FRA: Merlot predominant with a good tannin structure that demands food. Went oh so well with both the Salami (Salami, Pickles, Tomato, Cress) and Cheese (Chebris:Sheep/Goat - Hard, France with Pear & Caper Relish).
2015 Domaine Dubost-Tracot ‘La Ballofiere’-Morgon, FRA: This took a while to open too. a bit short on the fruit, but nice minerality with a full body-should have had this before the Bordeaux but had 20 minutes to kill so went here.
If you're ever in the neighbourhood, I recommend a visit-I'll definitely be back:
