My partner Rita and I have decided to escape the Christmas family frenzy this year (in WA) by flying to Melbourne on Christmas Eve. We'll be spending a few days exploring the delights of Melbourne's CBD, with lots of rooftop bars, laneway bars, underground bars .... I sense a pattern developing.
I'll be looking for recommendations for said bars (i.e. good wine by the glass and something special / interesting to offer), but I am also looking to do the five star Christmas lunch in the CBD - at a place that has decent wine and interesting food. Not a buffet / trough and Omni sparkling on tap. We intend to eat and drink well at Christmas.
I've been Googling "Christmas Lunch Melbourne CBD 2017" and similar and getting nowhere. So I thought I would ask the experts.

Try Bistro Thierry in Hawksburn, they do a sensational Christmas lunch. Ask for the window table. Should be taking bookings by now.

Make sure you drop into Hector's Deli in Richmond for a coffee and toastie one morning, trust me, you will never, ever have the same mindset about toasted sandwiches again once you have been there. Simply incredible!!!
